KEY MESSAGES
In order to reduce negative impacts to the reef ecosystem, there are a few critical messages we should try to convey to Hawaii's visitors. They are outlined below, and links to other resources and pages on PSL's website have been provided.
However, it is necessary to recognize that as a naturalist, the way you communicate these messages is very important. We are not “reef police” but instead seek to gently educate others in a positive and proactive manner. See the “Interpretation” section for more guidance and communication tools.
1. Do not stand on or touch the coral.
2. Respect protected species.
3. Do not feed the fish.
4. Minimize use of sunscreen, and apply well before entering the water.
